On December 14 and 15th, Audible hosted Code Blitz 2017. This was a hack event for the talented Web, SEO, and Premium Services teams where more than 50 development, UX, QA, and Product folks got together on a Thursday afternoon and hacked until the end of the day on Friday. Last month, this same team ran a successful hack style “ideathon” for a local Newark magnet school to show them how to go from an idea to a solution. Now, it was their turn at hacking!

It was so inspiring and humbling to see the passion, entrepreneurial spirit, and collaboration.

This event was entirely planned by the team which included designing event t-shirts and stickers, and took place in the cafe and meeting rooms in our Newark headquarters. The teams enjoyed food and refreshments while enthusiastically working late into the night on their hacks.

It was so inspiring and humbling to see the passion, entrepreneurial spirit, and collaboration. This team has a track record of delivering on major initiatives this year such as launching Audible Canada. So it wasn’t a surprise that the presentations on Friday evening were so uplifting for the entire Audible team and well-received by those who judged this event. There were a broad set of solutions presented including a gifting feature, editorial widget generator, new listening solutions for engaging new users, capabilities to make our content more discoverable, device optimizations, a command-line based interface, rewards, book sharing, and a new promotions-based product.

The biggest win was how the teams exhibited a missionary zeal for delivering our content to a global audience while exemplifying Audible’s People Principles: being customer obsessed, drawing inspiration from culture and technology, and moving fast to make it real. The richness and diversity of ideas, the technical innovation, along with the positive energy, were manifested in the plethora of valuable solutions presented.
