In April 2017, the national Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work program celebrated its 24th year, and Audible was a proud participant! Our Newark, New Jersey headquarters hosted the children (ages 7 to 13) of 110 Audible employees. The kids rocked special Audible tees that they received before arrival.
The children participated in several group activities highlighting the importance of the spoken word.
To kick things off, the children enjoyed some breakfast, immediately followed by Welcome Remarks and opening activities by Mike Masiello, VP. They then participated in several group activities highlighting the importance of the spoken word.
A little bit later, the children were divided into three age-based groups and participated in several different activities based on tasks performed daily by real Audible employees.
The Audible Brand team hosted a book cover designing session. The Creative team designers showed the children examples of different types of book covers and then gave them instructions to create one themselves. The children were then guided through the process and created a book cover they were able to take home.
Our Audible Studios team gave the children a lesson in recording audiobooks. During this activity, the children worked in groups to write their own stories. Once their stories were completed, they got the opportunity to record their audiobook in an actual Audible Studios recording booth.
The Audible Tech teams had an interactive session with the children showcasing several tech demos across Development, Product, UX, & QA. They also created a quick video overview of the life of a project that was both educational and entertaining. The kids really seemed to get a kick out of it!
To wrap up their working day at Audible, the kids were treated to a “make your own sundae” social, balloon artist, and more games. It was a total blast and we look forward to hosting again next year!
